We always recommend using TOG-rated sleepwear to ensure your baby is neither underdressed nor overdressed for their sleep 🥰
TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade, which is a measurement of insulation and thermal resistance that indicates how much warmth the fabric provides 🔥. TOG-rated clothing simplifies dressing your baby for sleep while ensuring optimal comfort, reducing the risk of them overheating or becoming too cold 🙌🏻
In Australia, TOG ratings range from 0.2 to 3.5. A higher ⬆️ TOG rating indicates the clothing is warmer, more padded and insulated, suitable for colder weather 🥶. Whereas, a lower ⬇️ TOG rating indicates lighter fabrics with less insulation, making them suitable for warmer weather 🥵
Several factors contribute to determining the appropriate TOG rating for your baby’s sleepwear, including the number of layers they are wearing 👕, the temperature 🌡️ of their sleeping environment, your home’s insulation, and your baby’s overall health 🥰
However, by using an accurate thermostat 🌡️ (not just the one on your baby monitor ⚠️), TOG-rated clothing helps take all the guesswork out of dressing your baby. ergoPouch also provide a ‘What to Wear Guide’ to help you choose the right TOG-rating 🙌🏻. For example, in a room warmer than 26°C ☀️ (78.8°F), a 0.2 TOG is recommended, while a room cooler than 14°C ❄️ (57.2°F), they recommend using a 3.5 TOG sleeping bag, a 1.0 TOG onesie, and a singlet 👶🏻
If your baby continues to wake frequently overnight despite having TOG-rated clothing and you need support to consolidate their sleep, please reach out and book a consultation or download our Sleep Essentials Guide at www.settletosleep.com.au 🩷🌸💫
