Trying to decipher whether your baby is protest crying or emotional crying can be difficult, especially if you are a new mumma or deep in the trenches of sleep deprivation yourself.
Therefore, sometimes the best way to know is to have a video representation of what it can look and sound like. Intermittent* protests can occur during sleep training, particularly in the first few days as your baby learns their new sleep routine and associations.
It is normal to expect older babies to cry and protest for an extended duration, given the potential for more deeply ingrained sleep associations and their capacity to stay awake for longer periods. This explains why it is natural for a nonverbal baby to cry and struggle to comprehend the change initially, in contrast to an older baby who may cry and have words of protest.
Remember that every baby is unique, and these characteristics may not always be definite. Hence, it is important to pay attention to your own baby’s cues, understand their individual signals, and respond to them when you feel is necessary. Over time, you will become more attuned to your baby’s different cries, enabling you to better interpret their needs ♡
